Welcome to the
website of Weston Angling Club Runcorn.
The club was formed in 1949 by the late Jimmy Critchley
and Arthur Dickinson. It was to be known as the ICI Weston Club
Angling Section, and was a part of the ICI Recreation Club, and
remained in this state for some 45 years. When the recreation club
was sold to a private group in 1994, the fishing section decided
also to go private. The name was changed to Weston Angling Club
Runcorn, and the club set about raising funds so that Sandymoor
Pool at least, could be bought outright. The club is now thriving,
with around 500 members, and currently has access to two different
waters.

Some 5000 new fish were stocked into Sandymoor back in November 2007. These were F1 hybrid Carp which are fast growing and prolific feeders, but do not breed. The club felt that they will make an excellent addition to the water and the prolific catches since then have proved this to be the case. The fish have established themselves well and are rapidly gaining weight.
We have since introduced a further 10,000 of these fish this year and we are already getting reports of some great catches.

from Sandymoor Pool
As you will have noticed, Sandymoor has undergone
some extensive work over the last few seasons, to further reduce
the amount of debris and leaf litter getting into the water. It
has included the cutting back of overhanging bankside trees, the
introduction of barley straw, and an extensive liming programme.
This has improved the water quality and the fishing tenfold so a
big thanks you to everyone
who helped out with the work parties, and the constant work throughout the year.
We are still looking for photos to go onto our gallery
pages, so please send in your captures.
This years Junior Open Day will be held on

Sturgeon.
As you may be aware, there have been reports of a number of Sturgeon
which have somehow found their way into Sandymoor Pool. The club
would like to request that any captures are put into the holding
tank, and that you phone Brian Nicholas as soon as possible, on
07775 931700.
Under no circumstances are these fish
to be re-intoduced to the water without the consent of the club.
Although a few have been rehoused within the Blue
Planet Aquarium, we don't know for sure how many there were, so
this request is still being enforced. We thank you for your continued
co-operation.
